Everyone’s a singer! We all do it, in the car, in the shower, washing the dishes. The real mystique and power of singing comes when you put it under lights with someone (anyone!) watching. K-Hosts know that deep down it is only one step-up from an air-guitar competition, but it’s their duty to serve the cravings of a community of self-love-sick addicts.

Karaoke gives hope to those who find their lives ordinary and mundane, lacking the excitement of Hollywood or the thrill of the roller coaster. When I first started hosting about 15 years ago, no one knew why I was asking them to get up and sing. I sang for most of the night waiting for people to get their fill of liquid courage to finally come up ‘on the stage’.

There is no replacing the promotion of Television. Shows like American Idol and other contests are launching artists out of the unknown into stardom like cannon balls. The internet is a powerful tool but it has not come close to replacing the power of TV just yet.

If you are a band trying to promote yourself on the internet, you should know upfront that it takes a lot of work. Supplemented with touring, word of mouth, flyers, blogs, and fan groups it can be a vital component in promoting your band. So, let’s get started.

There are enough articles written on Myspace and today’s musician knows that it is one of the best sites for a band or artist to promote them selves based on sheer numbers alone. No one will argue that a musician needs to have a myspace page and if you don’t have one yet you are way behind on today’s music scene. If you are unfamiliar with myspace you need to stop reading this article right now. Go and browse through Helium or Google it and research myspace now. There are no excuses for you and your failed attempts of promoting your band if you don’t have a myspace page.
