Of course the internet has changed the way almost every branch of business conducts its business. It has made the world available to anyone with access to a computer; within milliseconds we are bombarded with more information than we could possibly digest in a lifetime.

Given a few hours work, anyone can knock up a website; broadcast their message to world and start flogging anything to anyone who’s looking. Yes, things certainly have changed. We would all like to think that any new technology has been designed for the good of all and will make our lives better in all sorts of ways. But, as has so often been the case, a great technological step forward quite often results in irritating side effects which were utterly impossible to predict.

Is Stardom Possible

Music stardom are fuzzier than ever–a fact best exemplified by reality-TV shows such as idol and the crossover celebrities they create. On-air adapts itself to this world with a mix of personality interviews (Donald trump, Reba Mcentire), in-studio performances (Missy Elliott, Enrique Iglesias) and celeb gossip. It’s like total request live but older, or entertainment tonight but with more screaming fans. Granted, nobody asked for either one, and on-air was shaky in its first week. Seacrest may be better suited to the more controlled idol than to unpredictable live variety. When Richie brought a pair of goats with her to plug her rural reality show, one of the beasts did what well-fed goats do, all over the stage. Another talk host might have improvised a zinger out of the barnyard blooper; Seacrest just seemed icked out.

Music stardom are the last thing his dad wants to hear about, especially since he’s seen the dark side of the music biz. But romeo’s determined to let his talent speak for itself.

Music : Band reviews: System of a Down

Music Review: Mickie James’ Are You With Me

WWE Diva Mickie James hit the country airwaves with the single: Are You With Me. The five-time WWE Women’s champion and one-time Divas champion, signed a recording contract back in the fall of 2009 and has juggled studio sessions with her appearances for World Wrestling Entertainment. According to an interview with the World Wrestling Entertainment website, James is always writing poetry, short stories, and lyrics while on various excursions and travels.

Web sources indicate James’ debut single has won over her WWE fans and even some skeptical country music fans as well. Country Music Showcase offered several reviews from not only her fans, but the fans of other artists they represent. Here is an excerpt from The Country Mag.Com:

Music : The world's best rapper

Lets see…Coke or Pepsi….Tupac or Jay-Z, two greats, very similar, yet very different individuals. Until Jay-Z fully retires from the rap game, I’ll have to give it to Pac. When Jay retires his belt, he will be the greatest rapper of this time, and Tupac will be the greatest rapper of his time.

Tupac was truly an intellectual, he took what he learned from The Baltimore School of Performing Arts, his lifestyle, and street smarts, then provided us with some of the best rap music we would ever hear. His music was much deeper than just rhymes, he put his heart mind and spirit into everything he wrote. No matter if he was rapping from a thug’s perspective, or a gentle and caring rhyme for his mama, or a single teen mother, he spoke the truth and expressed exactly what he felt.

Music : Memoirs of a karaoke jockey

Everyone’s a singer! We all do it, in the car, in the shower, washing the dishes. The real mystique and power of singing comes when you put it under lights with someone (anyone!) watching. K-Hosts know that deep down it is only one step-up from an air-guitar competition, but it’s their duty to serve the cravings of a community of self-love-sick addicts.

Karaoke gives hope to those who find their lives ordinary and mundane, lacking the excitement of Hollywood or the thrill of the roller coaster. When I first started hosting about 15 years ago, no one knew why I was asking them to get up and sing. I sang for most of the night waiting for people to get their fill of liquid courage to finally come up ‘on the stage’.

Music Great websites for promoting your independent band

There is no replacing the promotion of Television. Shows like American Idol and other contests are launching artists out of the unknown into stardom like cannon balls. The internet is a powerful tool but it has not come close to replacing the power of TV just yet.

If you are a band trying to promote yourself on the internet, you should know upfront that it takes a lot of work. Supplemented with touring, word of mouth, flyers, blogs, and fan groups it can be a vital component in promoting your band. So, let’s get started.

Myspace www.myspace.com

There are enough articles written on Myspace and today’s musician knows that it is one of the best sites for a band or artist to promote them selves based on sheer numbers alone. No one will argue that a musician needs to have a myspace page and if you don’t have one yet you are way behind on today’s music scene. If you are unfamiliar with myspace you need to stop reading this article right now. Go and browse through Helium or Google it and research myspace now. There are no excuses for you and your failed attempts of promoting your band if you don’t have a myspace page. If you are serious about your music you need to read the articles on promoting your music on myspace right here on Helium.

Music : Do you think all rap or hip-hop affects society

I can no longer defend most of what passes for hip hop these days. Mainstream hip hop has come to glorify the some of the worst aspects of society. I do not live in the ghetto so I don’t know if hip hop is an accurate reflection of ghetto life or if hip hops portrayal of ghetto culture is distorted. For the sake of people living in these areas I hope the answer is the latter. The one thing that can’t be denied is that today’s mainstream hip hop promotes a lifestyle that reduces human beings to materialistic nihilists who will do anything for the almighty dollar. That some people see this lifestyle as cool is mind boggling to me. Why have we Americans always been so quick to romanticize the criminal elements of society? From the Italian mafia to 50 Cent we have always had in affinity for gangsters. Scarface is like a cultural icon in this country. His face can be seen in rap videos and his posters can be found plastered on the walls of college fraternities. My question is why are we always allowing ourselves to be desensitized to the point where we not only condone, but embrace lifestyles that we should know are immoral?

Music : How to make money in the music industry

If you want to get a record deal, get people to your shows, or sell music like crazy, the answer isn’t some kind of “magic pill” website that you post your music on, blindly sending out a bunch of demos, or anything to do with having good music…although good music certainly helps – the answer is to develop a “mindset” that naturally attracts people to what you’re doing as well as an understanding of how the music business game is played.

As you develop as a person, your music career will develop with you. Sounds crazy, but it’s true…and I’ve seen it time and time again, with thousands of acts that I’ve worked with, from garage bands, to the guys selling out arenas. Check out these ten common music business mistakes:

10. Being Too Difficult (or Too Nice)

First of all, let’s get this clear… Just because you wrote a few good songs and recorded them, doesn’t mean that the world revolves around you. Lots of people write and record good songs, so get in line.
